Where to start? Travel ain’t cheap.

Travelling on a budget is totally doable. Here are a few tips to help you get started on planning your next jollies.

Plan ahead

Plan plan plan! Planning ahead lets you ensure a butter like jolly. Planning can be boring and feel like you’re going round in circles, but it is a key to budget travel. Research your destination, finding the cheapest deals on hotels will save you a fortune. Putting together a plan can also help you avoid getting nasty expenses while travelling which are a pain, especially when on a tight budget. Plus it allows time to pay for stuff before the holiday, so when you’re there it is basically free… Planning may sound like you’re limiting yourself, but nay worry you can be spontaneous with your dates.

Keep dates flexible

Look for flights as soon as you can. This will mean you can find the best deal while not being tied down with specific dates. Having already planned ahead, you will have a preferred month in mind. Work with this when looking for exact dates, we use Skyskanner to find the cheapest flights.

Free stuff is your new best mate

As a proud Yorkshire couple we love free stuff. Who doesn’t? Whether its activities, food or upgrades. Free stuff is the bollocks. Asking for free stuff can feel a bit cheeky but once you’ve got the nack of it you can run wild with what you can get. As you’ve planned ahead you’ll know exactly what free activities there are. If you’re stuck for ideas, walk! Going for a wonder is free and a great way to see places, especially in cities.

You can get 5% off GetYourGuide with our code ‘TIGHTTRAVELLERS5’.

Gettin about

Get off your a*** and walk to your destination, it doesn’t get more free then this. Taxis are a no go for us budget travellers, unless you’re in Asia where they can be pretty cheap. If you canny walk somewhere your next option will be public transport. Whether that be a train or a bus it will save you a lot in the long run. This can be a very easy option, or sometimes very confusing depending on where you are in the world. We always use Google maps, it gives you step by step instructions – you can’t really go wrong there.

You don’t need them

Ever heard of the saying ‘inside out, back to front’ well that is said by Yorkshire men. Packing light can save on unnecessary costs when flying as we all know these airlines like to take the mik when making prices up for baggage. It’s a simple step that people overlook but a carry on will serve you just fine for a weekend away or a week if you take the above literally.

Hopefully these will save you a few quid next time you’re away. Be as cheeky as you dare. Happy flighting.
